mobile applications and server framework

gstream application tour :: general

The [g]stream application will source geo-located data from wikipedia and other sources. The text data is parsed and converted to an audio stream. The application will also allow users to author their own content on the gstream platform. gstream users can subscribe to authored content or search by topic.

The application and server framework will incorporate technology to provide a simulated personality to the streaming audio content. Personality can be adjusted to provide a fun and exciting experience for the user.

The [g]stream application presents a familiar tabbed user interface with four (4) main pages: Stream, Map, Catalog and Settings. Audio can be streamed and controlled while any of these pages has focus.

The server framework that supports the [g]stream application consists of an application server, database and streaming audio servers. The prototype is currently built on the LAMP technology stack (Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP) supporting the gstream web services platform. The production version of the server framework will be built on a cloud computing platform. The cloud computing paradigm enables ubiquitous access to shared pools of configurable system resources and higher-level services that can be rapidly provisioned with minimal management effort - enabling a more efficient, reliable and scalable platform.

The business model for the [g]stream mobile application and server framework is still developing. We will work hard to build a company that provides a diverse and inclusive environment to grow and build gstream! We will build the application framework to support and provide content to tourists and general audiences. Using our capacity for innovation, we will create a space where our users - traveling the world or hanging out in their kitchens - can congregate, connect and contribute to a community of curiosity, story and knowledge.

A financially sustainable and profitable business model will be archived through application subscriptions, subscription to premium content, use of micro transactions, selective paid advertising, community support and investment.

Upon financial stability, [g]stream will donate a specific percentage of profits to selected charitable organizations that help improve social well-being, public interest and common good at home or across the world. gstream will also give back to the open source community that makes this development possible. Primary organizations that have supported gstream development are the Wikipedia Foundation, Software Freedom Conservancy and The Open Source Initiative among others.

Data privacy gets the last word. [g]stream is committed to using best of class technology to keep your information secure. We will never sell or share your data with third party entities. Sharing your data in limited circumstances maybe required to comply with the law, or to protect you and others. We will retain your data only for the shortest possible time that is consistent with maintaining, understanding, and improving the gstream applications and framework.
